Hatch, NM — If you’ve been folowing me on Twitter (www.twitter.com/travelingringo), you probably know that I’ve recently started using Instagram (www.instagram.com/travelingringo). I’ve discovered that – as with most social media – it’s kind of addictive.
Instagram offers the ability to manipulate your basic cellphone pictures, by applying different filters which add or subtract things like color, contrast, and saturation. It’s a way to make each picture unique and different, and some Instagram users are able to create unique works of art from their photos.
I didn’t have an Instagram account until Harley-Davidson asked me to tweet photos from my recent two-week trip to northern New Mexico and west Texas, while working on several stories for HOG magazine.
I liked the app so much, I’ve decided to post daily (or at least “regular”) Instagram pics here on Travelin’ Gringo, for those who may not follow me on Twitter or Facebook (www.facebook.com/travelingringo)
The picture above is from Sparky’s restaurant, in Hatch, N.M., which is a town that’s known as the Chile Pepper Capital of the World. I rode a 2013 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Ultra on this trip, putting on nearly 2,000 miles in 2 weeks. For HOG members, you’ll be able to read several stories from the trip in upcoming issues of HOG magazine, but for now, enjoy the Instagrams!
Hmmm it would let me post my first comment…so just dropping back by to say it was a great roadside meeting of photographic friends in N NM. Hi! I find ur words so related to me, cause I did start usin IG about a pair of years ago. For me, it is far more than a social media, l found a good fistful of trustful friends there, and the most important, l met a Texan girl, who, believe it or not, after kik-ing with her for several months, became my couple and yes, came to Spain to marry me. Why l am telling u about this? Easy, u, who l can tell l feel my new friend from IG, went through West Texas, bringing home smiles and tears from me and my wife, cause, and this is holy truth, u took shots from her little village and her growing up town, El Paso.
For me, IG is a way of life, just as great as Twitter. Not FB.

Hi Jose, I’m glad you’re enjoying the photos, and it’s nice to hear about your story with your wife. It’s true that Instagram can open up new worlds, isn’t it? (I don’t mean to sound like I’m doing a commercial for them, I just really like using it)
